The unique design and low energy consumption aren-foott the only reasons Ice Eliminator has become a best seller. Let-foots just list a few more... Solid aluminum housing keeps the unit from falling out of the birdbath. Attractive rock-like design blends naturally with any birdbath. Spray paint any color to match any birdbath. Will not calcify, rust, or leave stains in birdbaths. Won-foott burn or melt plastic birdbaths. Being only 50 watts, it saves $ vs. most other brands. Three year limited warranty.
Customer Review
Even when the weather is between 10-20 degrees F, there is no ice in the birdbath at all. I have not used it in temperatures below 10 degrees F, so I cannot comment on performance in those temperatures.
It does get algae on it along with the birdbath, but it is easy to clean with a scrubber. I haven't noticed any change in my electric bill. I would purchase this item again, if I needed to. The warranty is 3 years, which is unheard of in our day. I haven't found any dead birds around the birdbath, so no one is getting electrocuted...that's always a plus!

Birdbath de-icer - Tender of the Gardens - Illinois
Product was shipped quickly and the item was exactly as described. The only problem I've found is that it only thaws a small area of my birdbath. However, I guess that's all the birds need at this time.
